CROWNS

If you are self-conscious about your smile due to cracked, broken, decayed or worn teeth, we can bring back your healthy, natural-looking smile with crowns.  A filling can restore a small defect in a tooth, but a crown is the most durable way to restore a tooth with extensive damage for the long term.  With all of the materials and techniques modern dentistry has to offer, crowns can be totally natural looking and enhance anyone’s smile.

Additional benefits of crowns are correcting bite problems, closing spaces between teeth, and changing the angulations of teeth.  They can be used to replace missing teeth permanently as part of a bridge or over an implant.

A crown is a tooth-shaped sheath placed over a tooth that is too badly damaged or decayed for a standard filling.  Crowns are also used for cosmetic purposes to cover poorly shaped or discolored teeth.  A crown, also known as a cap, is fabricated to look like your tooth.

There are many types of crowns that include all metal, porcelain fused to metal (PFM), or all ceramic.  Metals that are used include gold alloy and other alloy combinations.  PFM and all-ceramic crowns look just like natural teeth.  Two visits are usually required to prepare and place a crown in your mouth:  the initial appointment to prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown and the second visit to seat the crown.
